Doctor Who Season 2 Predictions Verdict

Updated: 2 days ago

Before the series started I predicted what I would thought would happen in each episode. So now that the dust has settled, let's see how I got on...

PREDICTION: I know trailers can be deceiving, but from what we have seen, it does seem to be shifting to a slightly darker tone this series. I hope so - every Doctor needs shit to get real. So before I make a prediction, I will make a wish - please don't be too bloody silly! I love that Doctor Who is silly, I don't love talking babies though.

We are going to have to meet a new companion, and this is making me think Belinda isn't from our time, or maybe even our planet. Could she be from an alien world or the future, or both for that matter. Scrap that, I have just seen another trailer, Belinda appears to be from Earth.

Anyway, perhaps this episode will be along the Detroit: Become Human vibe - robots gaining a soul and rebelling - just slightly less gritty than the game and a little more cheesy.

VERDICT: Well for starters I got Belinda completely wrong, but I guess I got the essence of the episode pretty spot on, sort of. It was so much better than Space Babies, and that was my one true hope for the episode. I am taking a win on this.

PREDICTION: I have actually realised I have hardly any knowledge of this series other than the couple of trailers and episode names. Just going by the title reveal, I am guessing this is when Ncuti dons his bowler hat. Also going by the reveal this is the episode featuring Mr. Ring-a-Ding. This does seem to follow last series, a set up episode, a mysterious companion to solve, then a more experimental bonkers episode after.

I have no idea how this will play out. None what so ever! People being turned into cartoons? Kind of like the wire or the wi-fi in The Idiot's Lantern and The Bells of Saint John? I have no clue, and I love it!!

It looks like it is going to be a banger episode though - I have very high hopes for this one.

VERDICT: I was correct - it was a banger, and it was bonkers! As for the rest? I was wrong, very wrong. This was more wild than I predicted, it was only the Doctor and Belinda who were turned into a cartoon, and it was nothing like The Idiot's Lantern or The Bells of Saint John.

PREDICTION: This has the look of a base under siege episode.

I cannot place a monster in this, so I am going to gamble by guessing it is the Daleks. The well is actually on Skaro and the Daleks are coming. A base under siege isn't the MO of this version of Doctor Who, that seems to boring and safe, a base under siege with a Dalek twist then.

VERDICT: I got two things correct in a way, I am saying I did anyway. This was a base under siege, and it was a returning villain. It wasn't the Daleks though, it was the Midnight Entity. This defiantly had a twist, just not the one I was expecting. I will give myself 6/10 for my prediction though.

PREDICTION: I do worry about UNIT, they are a bit bland. They do not excite me. That said, Ruby is in this one so it isn't the end of the world. By the small newspaper clipping it seems UNIT are keeping aliens, and I assume, as is always the case with UNIT, they fuck it up. A few pointless cameos later and the Doctor and Belinda swoop in to save the day.

That is very negative of me I know. If this is the episode with the guy and Ruby with the hand creeping up on his back, well that looked good, so who knows, perhaps we are in for a horror treat. My favourite kind of Doctor Who.

VERDICT: I take it all back. UNIT were well done here, apart from the Vlinx who is absolutely pointless. Ridiculously pointless to be honest! Kate had her best episode yet. The Doctor and Belinda did not save the day, and this was more a look at how horrible humans are as opposed to a horror episode. This series seems to be taking a critical look at the human race a lot as it happens. I did not predict the monster would be a Doctor Woke YouTuber!

PREDICTION: This is an interesting name! It has given me no clue as to what will happen, but I am very, very intrigued. A hairdressers and a spider seem to be the clues for this, so I think we have seen a giant spider, but I have no idea how that would be related to a hairdressers.

My prediction is someone makes mechanical monsters, a mechanical spider, maybe some of the other aliens we have seen. The dinosaur skeleton perhaps (although I think this will be in the finale).

VERDICT: Someone did make a spider I guess. But I was vague with my prediction and off the mark. I wasn't a huge fan of this episode, I got a bit confused at points, and I really didn't like the ending.

PREDICTION: I was really hoping to get Juno's episode early, I'm even more excited for it now I know they are writing the Song Contest one. I wonder if we will be surprised, expecting camp, but getting an emotional journey for the Doctor and Belinda. I still expect some camp though.

Will Rylan make it out alive? Are we looking at a Rylan hologram?

Again, I have no idea what will happen. Could there be a surprise reappearance of Maestro perhaps? That would be fun wouldn't it. I am going to say that - Maestro returns, causes carnage, Murray Gold writes a banger Eurovision song, Maestro is defeated and the Doctor and Belinda enter on behalf of someone who was killed along the way.

VERDICT: The Doctor didn't sing, and Maestro didn't return. A full on failure on the guessing front.

The Doctor did ride a confetti cannon and admitted it was camp, but predicting a Eurovision themed Doctor Who episode might be a bit camp is a pretty good bet to make.

With all that said, this episode was a lot darker than I expected. Seeing the Doctor lose his (or her) shit is always good TV though, so I am here for it.

PREDICTION: A big focus on the clock hands whizzing round. Will the finale be two parts? Will this be a standalone episode? RTD loves a cliffhanger, I know there will be a good one, I just have no idea what. I am assuming Mrs. Flood will play a part, who will she end up being? Will she be a Time Lord? A God? Something else? If she is a God, she got pretty done over by Sutekh, so I am going to say Time Lord.

The fact that these two series were filmed together makes me think that the previous series may be way more important than it previously has. The links will be big to series 1/14. Could Mrs. Flood be Ruby?

This actual episode, well, my guess would be the Doctor cannot get Belinda home, in a final throw of the dice he takes her to Wish World and hopes they can get back by wishing. Obviously things fuck up and the shit hits the fan, secrets are revealed, Belinda is not who we thought she was, Mrs. Flood reveals a big plan, and everything and everyone is up shit creek without a sonic!

VERDICT: Fail! The clock was there but didn't play as big a part as I thought. There was a major season 1 link, but did I fuck think it would be a bloody space baby!

You could say Belinda wasn't who we thought she was, but I'm still unsure about her ending. Actually, I'm sure, I really disliked it.

The cliffhanger didn't feel as grand as all of Russell's others, so I can't even give myself that. Mrs Flood was a Time Lord, but I think that was always coming.

PREDICTION: UNIT getting in the way again no doubt! However, the scene with Mel and the houses disappearing looks amazing. Reality is going to go very wibbly-wobbly, will it be Mrs. Flood? Will reality fuck up and all sorts of monsters are let loose? Dinosaur skeletons, Daleks, Cybermen, a pantheon of Gods, RTD throwing absolutely everything at the screen? I hope so!

VERDICT: I think my prediction was more on hope than anything else. I will always believe Ncuti was a great Doctor who never got to fight any truly great villains. That has been the biggest issue with his whole run in my eyes.

He also got a couple of very poor finales to finish off strong, bold runs in the rest of the series. Mysteries teased (or not, in the case of Poppy) that had majorly shit resolutions.

I certainly didn't have seeing Billie and Jodie on my bingo card at the start of the series. Seeing Jodie again was an absolute delight. Seeing Billie was a thrill as well, but I am unsure where the show is going from here so I am trying to keep my excitement very much on hold. Billie would be such a good Doctor though.

This era will forever frustrate me, it was so close to being peak - it just needed a couple of iconic villains. If the Daleks were causing carnage in Empire of Death then I think the whole signpost thing might have been less of a glaring flop. If it was Missy and not the Rani in season 2 then Missy versus Fifteen would have been enough theatre to gloss over Belinda becoming a mother without knowing.

Anyway, in summary, my predictions were awful!

What did you think of season 2? Did you predict anything as completely wrong as me? Let me know in the comments below.
