Sonic!
Good!
Bumpy-wumpy!
Exterminate!
Something seems to be clicking this series doesn't it? It is strange, as I cannot fully put my finger on it, it is more strange when you consider this was filmed with the previous series.
Now is probably not the time to be comparing them, we are only three episodes in after all. I'm not saying last season was poor, but with hindsight we had a disappointing opening episode, and the series wasn't really tied up with a pretty bow. I guess what it may boil down to though is having more time with the Fifteenth Doctor. Series 1 was over before it even started, and Ncuti wasn't really in two of the episodes.
When I think back, all the Doctor's didn't fully form in their first series. Ten became iconic as he went along, Matt Smith grew into the character and absolutely shines from series 6 on, the Twelfth Doctor softened slightly and owned it.
It is so far, so very, very good though.
"Girl, you are beginning to enjoy this!"
So what about The Well then? Well I thought it was amazing, this is my kind of Doccy Who. I love it when things get creepy! Ncuti and Varada were very good, but the star of the show was Rose Ayling-Ellis. It is often a struggle for one off characters to gain any sympathy and connection from me, but I was fully behind Aliss all the way. She even got me emotional when she was pleading to get home to see her baby, and when everyone had their back to her, it was so well acted. Bravo!

I think that's the first episode in a very long time that has made me jump. Fucking hell it made me jump first time anyway!
I know a lot of people are saying why make the Midnight monster different, but wasn't that the point? That it had had all that time to grow, and learn. It spent all of Midnight learning as it went - I thought that was the whole premise of the monster. Learning, teasing, having fun, turning the people against each other. I don't look into things all that much, I just enjoy fun and scary adventures with my time travelling friend, but I certainly picked that up watching Midnight and The Well.
So far during Ncuti's run we have not had many old foes return, the ones that have have been a tad random. We had Sutekh of course, a Silurian hotel manager and now the Midnight Entity. Not a Dalek or Cyberman in sight.
Another thing that I have been enjoying this series is the call backs to times gone by from Murray Gold. The shit was hitting the fan, people were arguing, people were being chucked around in the air, and all I was thinking was - the link is broken. Back into the time war, Rassilon. Back into hell!
Lux obviously had The Sad Man With a Box which was magical as well. Apparently the Tenth Doctor's theme played at some point in this also, but I missed that. Murray Gold Easter Eggs all over the place.
"I've been here before."
The only things that really bugged me was how quick and random the pre-titles sequence was, and it was kind of building up to someone sacrificing themselves down the well, so that wasn't all that shocking. But you know what, I can live with that, this was still some good stuff.
Oh actually one more thing - Mrs Flood is becoming tiresome. We had it all with her and Susan Twist last year, so I am not that bothered by her appearances at the moment. I am concerned this will not be a big pay off, I live in hope though.
All in all another banger episode, and currently I rank this even higher than Lux.
What did you think of this episode? Did you enjoy the Midnight Entity coming back for seconds? Should RTD have left it alone? Let me know in the comments below.
