Why it Would Have Been Epic if Thasmin Ended Up With the Thirteenth Doctor Snogging Yaz

The Thirteenth Doctor’s era in Doctor Who was ground breaking in many ways, but one of the most discussed aspects was the relationship between the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and companion Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill). Fans speculated, debated, and celebrated the hints of romantic tension between the two characters. Yet, despite the build-up and emotional moments, the relationship never fully blossomed. Thasmin never gave us the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz snogging. But what if it had? What if the Doctor had puckered up for Yaz?
Here’s why I think the moment that it all seemed to be building up to would have been epic.
The Thasmin Moment That Could Have Been
Let me get this out of the way first!! Was there actually anything written in the show that hinted at Yaz and the Doctor having the feels for each other? Was it a carefully crafted blossoming romance? Or did Chibnall jump on the Thasmin talk online and bundle it into the last few episodes? I guess we will never fully know, however, I am leaning more towards the latter.
That said, it was there whatever the reasons, and the seed had certainly been planted in Eve of the Daleks - or maybe before - and with the news that Jodie and Mandip were leaving, things seemed to be building towards an emotional, potentially heart wrenching finale, the Doctor gaining a love only to lose that love with a regeneration. I just don't think the pay off was that great, which is why I believe Thasmin was shoehorned in. Did they chicken out of a snog?
The Power of Jodie and Mandip’s Chemistry
I think the main reason the Thasmin thing became a thing was purely down to Jodie and Mandip. The pair are obviously great friends, and it shines in interviews they have done over time. They also seem to be the most amazing people, always friendly, love the fans they interact with at cons, and embrace everything about the show. The pictures and videos of the pair are the main reason I want to brave going to a con for the first time, they seem so amazing. Their friendship is so lovely.

If you can't see it, you can't be it, as the saying goes!
This is why having Juno Dawson writing for the show is very exciting. She doesn't have to write anything about her experiences of course, she may not have done that, but if she uses her experience in her writing (which I think everyone must do) then it will be there in the story. It will be there on iPlayer for all to see, and all to get a glimpse into how a different person to them is treated, for better, or for worse.
Am I saying I want every relationship to be a same sex one? Am I saying that I want every character to be trans, or every writer? No! All I am saying is it is good to give people a chance, it is good to see other peoples views. It is important.
This is why the news, albeit from The Scum, about Ncuti leaving is so disheartening. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if he left, but he would be leaving because he is a talented actor who has probably had a lot of offers from bigger (and not better, nothing is better than Doctor Who) things. He wouldn't have left because the show is too woke, or that his advisors said the show is too woke - what a load of shit that is by the way. Do you really think for one second that Ncuti Gatwa's people have advised him to leave the show because they are casting LGBQT actors, fuck me, he was Eric in Sex Education!
"Hi Ncuti - you know you played Eric, a gay man who struggles to come out fully because of his parents in this TV show about relationships and sex about various people, with various sexual orientations, had trans characters and non-binary characters in? Well yes, forget that, we have decided that Doctor Who is way too woke for you because a drag queen has been cast in it last series. I know, we are as shocked as you, but Doctor Who is just too woke for you, we have decided you should quit."
I would link the article and put some proper quotes, but fuck that, I would rather shit in my hands and clap than look at that disgrace of a paper. You get my point though, it is just complete bullshit! Why is it always Doctor Who as well? Is it because it is on the BBC? Is it because deep down it is still as magical as it was in 1963 and people bloody well know it. If you don't like it, fuck off, stop talking about it, stop getting clicks for it, go and watch Donald Trump speeches and wank off over them, I think that is all they would be happy with these days.

Back to Thasmin!
This could have been a moment, a pretty big moment come to think of it. This could have put Thirteen even more on the map! It could have made Yaz an even better companion. It could have been up there with Bad Wolf Bay! It would have been up there with Bad Wolf Bay!
Breaking Barriers with the Doctor’s First Same-Sex Kiss?
Also, same sex kisses always seem to focus more on men. Maybe I am wrong about that, but there always seems to be more talk about this than if it was two women. A truly romantic kiss between the Doctor and Yaz would have been big fucking news. The silly little blue box show breaking down a few more barriers on its merry little way.
Above all the representation and barriers - it would have been a pay off. The scene of the Doctor and Yaz sat on top of the TARDIS with an ice cream is truly beautiful, but imagine if all of that led to a kiss? Yaz has some ice cream round her mouth, the Doctor goes to move it, the score swells, the universe holds its breath as their eyes meet, their faces close, and then, they kiss. Ice creams fall from their hands and spiral down to earth, but they don't care! Come on, that would have been better wouldn't it? This could have been a defining moment for the show, joining the ranks of iconic Doctor Who scenes that fans revisit time and time again.

The Doctor’s Past Romantic Encounters
It would have been true to the doctors character as well. The Doctor hasn't been shy of snogging a few people now and again, why do they stop doing this when they become a woman? Lets list them off the top of my head:
Rose of course
Martha
Donna
Astrid
Joan
Madame De Pompador
Lady Christina
Jack
Amy
River
Did he kiss Clara?
He just man handled Jenny in the last episode I watched
Queen Elizabeth
Missy
Rogue
I am sure there were more as well. Were the writers to scared to make Thirteen as fancy free as the men before her? Would the public say the Doctor was a slut for snogging someone as a woman when she has done a whole lot of 'dancing' before as a man?
I would see Thirteen more in the Eleven mould when it comes to said dancing. Nervous, awkward, but once they get going you just try and stop them.
The Thirteenth Doctor’s warmth, empathy, and unique perspective could have naturally led to such a moment. A kiss would have underscored her deep connection with Yaz, while remaining true to her identity.
The Thasmin Legacy of the Thirteenth Doctor Snogging Yaz
Having the first female Doctor share a romantic moment with a female companion would have flipped the script in the best way possible, subverting expectations and signalling a new era for the show.
It would have been a bold choice, cementing the Thirteenth Doctor’s era as one that wasn’t afraid to explore uncharted territory.
A kiss between the Doctor and Yaz wouldn’t have just been about fan service; it would have left a lasting legacy. Future seasons could have referenced this ground breaking moment, and it would have paved the way for more diverse storytelling in Doctor Who and beyond.
The Thirteenth Doctor’s era would be remembered not only for its adventurous spirit but for its courage in exploring love in all its forms.

What Could Have Been: Thasmin Fans Left Wanting More
While Doctor Who gave us poignant moments between the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz, it stopped short of fully exploring their potential romance. A kiss could have been the culmination of their bond, a moment of vulnerability and courage that would have echoed throughout the show’s history.
In a universe filled with infinite possibilities, a romantic moment between the Doctor and Yaz would have reminded us of the most timeless truth: love is the most powerful force of all. Here’s hoping the TARDIS doors remain open for more daring and heartfelt storytelling in the future.
Not to blow my own trumpet or anything - but they snog in my FanFic story. Plus they meet Olaf, Elsa, Anna and Kristoff. Check it out HERE. What do you think? Was Thasmin perfectly wrapped up or were you left wanting so much more? Let me know in the comments below.
